Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has described his state as a strong and silent performer in all sectors while showcasing its achievements in various areas while emphasising that the state was striving to realise its goals of peace, prosperity and progress, reports The New Indian Express.
The CM received awards on behalf of the state in the categories of 'overall performance' and 'maintenance of law & order' and 'tourism' from the India Today group, at an event held in New Delhi. The Chief Minister, after receiving the awards, said that Tamil Nadu’s economy during the past three decades had registered the most substantial and most sustained growth among all states.
"It has become the second largest state economy in India, contributing 8.4 per cent to national GDP. Tamil Nadu is one of the few states to reduce poverty at a rate faster than the all-India average," said the CM.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that state’s Human Development Index (HDI) was much higher than the national average and second highest among the larger states in India due to the consistent level of expenditure in the social sector in areas like health education, welfare of women and children, welfare of the differently-abled, welfare of SCs and STs, social security and nutrition.
"We have today one of the best educated and skilled workforces in the country. The Composite Education Development Index places Tamil Nadu in the number one position. The gross enrolment ratio in higher education in Tamil Nadu is the highest at 8.60 per cent," he added.
The CM also mentioned that the government had formulated a new e-governance policy, environment policy, an eco-tourism policy, youth policy, information technology policy and food processing policy to aid development.
The CM added saying that the firmness showed by the state in terms of maintaining law and order has kept left-wing extremism, communal tension, religious fundamentalism and labour unrest at bay.
