The Defence Ministry on Tuesday (12 February) for the acquisition of 54 HAROP killer drones from Israel for the Indian Air Force, ANI has reported.

These drones which are designed to crash into high-value enemy targets to enable their complete destruction.

It was earlier reported that the Indian Air Force would be existing its option clause present in the past deal to acquire these additional drones.

The Indian Air Force currently owns about 110 such drones and this deal is expected to further bolster its unmanned aerial capability. These drones are fitted with electro-optical sensors to hover over enemy targets like surveillance bases and radar stations.

This project renamed as P-4 could be turned into an even more lethal program after talks are ongoing between the two countries to turn the existing drones into high-quality attackers with enhanced surveillance capabilities.

This upgradation project has been named as Project Cheetah.

The Indian Armed Forces are also working on developing drones under the Make-In-India program.
