Indian Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (29 April) and briefed him about the various initiatives being taken by the Army to help in Covid management.
The development comes as the Covid-19 infections in India are on a rise, with the active cases surging to a record high of 30,84,814.
General Naravane informed PM Modi that medical staff of the Indian Army is being made available to various state governments, a statement by the Prime Minister's office (PMO) said.
He also briefed the Prime Minister that the Indian Army is setting up temporary hospitals in various parts of the country.
The Indian Army chief further apprised that the force is opening up its hospitals for civilans wherever possible and that citizens can approach their nearest Army hospitals.
He also informed that the Army is helping with manpower for imported Oxygen tankers and vehicles where specialised skills are required to manage them.
Earlier on Wednesday (28 April), Indian Air Force's (IAF) Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria called on PM Modi and briefed him about the Covid related operations being conducted by the IAF.
