Indian Army To Induct Women As Pilots Into Force's Aviation Corps From 2022, Training To Begin From July This Year

In a major development, women are set to be inducted as pilots into the Army Aviation Corps from 2022 onwards as a result of which they will begin to fly helicopters to forward locations and partake in border operations, reports Economic Times.
The positive development was announced by Indian Army's Chief General M M Naravane himself. This gains significance as currently the women serve in the Indian Army's Aviation Corps only as a part of the ground duties. General Naravane infromed that the proposal has been cleared.
General Naravane said that he had initiated a proposal in this direction last month, and the next course which will begin in July will induct women for training purposes in the flying branch. Thereafter, one year later they will be ready to take up operational duties.
Formed on 1 November 1986, the Army Aviation Corps comprises of helicopters which fly in conflict and peace zones. It is pressed into action for the evacuation of injured troops during operations or health emergencies in high altitude areas. It also takes up duties involving reconnaissance, observation, casualty evacuation, essential load drops and combat search and rescue.
