Indian Navy Enhances Its Amphibious Operations Capability By Inducting Sixth Made-In-India Transport Ship

In a major boost to the initiative of ‘Make in India’, the Indian Navy has inducted it’s sixth indigenously designed and built transport ship, reports Times Of India.
The ship named LCU L56, is a Landing Craft Utility of Mk-4 class, said a Navy communique.
It will be based at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and will compliment the amphibious capabilities of the force by aiding the transportation of troops, tanks and equipment.
Assisted by five officers and 50 sailors, Lt Cdr Gopinath Narayan will be in charge of the vessel.
With the ever increasing influence of the PLA Navy of Communist China, India is stressed to wield the best of its potential in the region to counter strategise Beijing’s ambitions over an area where a huge chunk of maritime movement takes place, which includes vital supply routes.
