Indian Navy’s Firepower To Get A Big Boost With 38 Extended Range BrahMos Missiles Capable Of Hitting Targets 450 Km Away

In a move that will significantly boost its firepower, the Indian Navy is set to buy 38 extended range BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.
The extended range version of the BrahMos missile, which the Navy will get, is capable of hitting targets as far as 450 kilometers away.
The Navy’s proposal to buy 38 BrahMos missiles, likely to cost around 1,800 crore, is expected to get approval from the Ministry of Defence soon.
Multiple Indian warships have already been equipped with the existing version of the BrahMos missile, capable of hitting targets at 290 kilometers.
In an interview recently, BrahMos Aerospace CEO Sudhir Mishra had said that the range of the existing inventory can be extended “without much effort”.
Last month, India had conducted multiple tests of the BrahMos cruise missile in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Bay of Bengal.
BrahMos Aerospace has conducted multiple tests of the extended range version of the BrahMos cruise missile over the last few years.
Currently, BrahMos Aerospace is working on equipping the cruise missile with an indigenous seeker to increase the level of indigenous content in the weapon developed jointly with Russia’s NPO. The production version of the indigenous seeker is likely to be ready within a year.
The missile has already been tested with the indigenous seeker.
