Country’s biggest oil firm, the state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has become the first oil supplier in the country to begin the supply of the world's cleanest petrol and diesel called BS-VI fuel, reports The Economic Times.

The IOC‌ has begun the dispensation of BS-VI petrol and diesel across all its 28,000 petrol pumps across the length and breadth of India. This comes a week ahead of the 1 April deadline by which all fuel stations in the country will be bound to sell only BS-VI compliant fuel.

Post 1 April, India will join the coveted list of select nations that use petrol and diesel which contains just 10 parts per million of sulphur. This would provide a major impetus to the nation’s fight to curb vehicular pollution.

It should also be noted that India is the first nation among all large economies to have directly transitioned from the much-polluting BS-IV fuels to environment-friendly BS-VI fuels in merely three years.
