Indian Railways has stationed almost 4000 Covid care coaches hosting 64,000 beds across the country that will be used by the state governments to treat Covid-19 infected patients.

These coaches will be employed for patients suffering mild symptoms as the railway ministry is set to repeat converting coaches into isolation units as it did during the first wave of the pandemic in the country in 2020.

The Delhi, Maharashtra, and other state governments had requested for such coaches to be brought into use yet again as their hospitals had started running out of space with a massive surge in new Covid-19 cases in India.

The Shakurbasti and the Anand Vihar Terminal stations in Delhi have been provided with 50 and 25 coaches respectively that comprises of 1200 beds collectively.

Similarly, 21 coaches having 378 beds have been given to the Nandurbar station in Maharashtra. A total of 55 patients are admitted in the same as of now, Economic Times reports.

20 coaches each are allotted to the Bhopal and Jabalpur stations whereas 50 coaches have been prepared to be deployed at Punjab.

These Covid care coaches aim to ease some pressure on the traditional healthcare facilities and open up new avenues to isolate patients suffering from minimal symptoms of the disease.
