Indian Railways Joins Preparation For Kumbh Mela: Extends Unreserved Ticket Booking Window To 15 Days

In order to facilitate travel during the 2019 Kumbh Mela, Indian Railways has decided to allow a 15-day window to book unreserved tickets via its UTS app, Financial Express has reported.

Passengers can avail this facility from 11 January up till March 2019 and is applicable for journeys distancing above 200 km.

The unique facility, provided by the Indian Railways, will be available for travel to 12 stations namely - Allahabad Junction, Allahabad City, Naini, Subderganj, Rambag, Prayag Ghat, Daraganj, Phaphumau, Jhusi, Vindhyachal, Chheoki. It is also applicable for return journeys.

This decision has been taken to cater to public demand during the Mahakumbh season and to avoid any last minute chaos. In a circular published by the Indian Railways, it was explained that it is anticipating a huge rush during the season.

Besides extending the window to book tickets, Railways is planning to build skywalks, platforms, foot overbridges and road over bridges as an infra revamp for Mahakumbh. It will also run five special trains to ferry the attendees of Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas. These trains would solely comprise of AC-II tier coaches.
