The Indian Railways has decided not to discontinue the 89-year-old Deccan Queen dining car, the Hindustan Times reports. “We had decided to discontinue the dining car of the Deccan Queen. However, we have revoked our decision, and the dining car will continue to serve the passengers,” stated the senior public relations officer AK Jain.

Jain also added that It is an old legacy of the Indian railways and will continue to function. Railway authorities had decided to discontinue the dining car due to too much passenger traffic.

Pune divisional manager (DRM), Milind Deouskar, had said in an interview that, “Currently, we have to dedicate an entire coach for the dining facility. While other trains are jam-packed owing to the exponential increase in passenger traffic, it becomes difficult for us to keep one coach, especially for the dining car.”

In the same interview, he had also mentioned that the railways had got a lot of messages on social media and letters were sent to the official’s communication channel, which requested not to discontinue the dining car.

The president of Railway Pravasi Group, Harsha Shah, claimed that the dining car is part of a legacy and should not be erased. She also said, “If the number of passengers is increasing, the authorities should have decided to increase the number of coaches. Removing the dining car will certainly not solve the issue.”
