In a major push towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Indian Railways is going to introduce a clause in its procurement norms to support domestic bidders and to attract more participation from them in the bidding process, reports Times of India.

The Railways has reached out to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to make relevant policy changes required to achieve the objective if required.

The statement released after the meeting said, "It was felt that encouragement needs to be given to such vendors who can supply higher locally manufactured content. It was also suggested to create a FAQ section and a helpline number so that vendors may get clarity on various issues relating to the procurement process."

During the meeting, it was also decided that the Railways will also be instituting a user-friendly and web-based single step vendor interface for all its activities. It should give all interested vendors a clear idea of how to do business with the Railways, and all other relevant information.
