Indian Railways To Retire Around A Dozen Officers Above Joint Secretary Rank For Non-Performance

Following the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian Railways is preparing a list of about a dozen officers above the rank of joint secretary for their compulsory retirement for non-performance, reports Times of India.
According to the report, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had directed the Ministry of Railways to review the system of fixing the responsibility for non-performance of officers by the end of this month.
The non-performers in the railway ministry have been identified and they may be shunted out in the next couple of weeks, senior railway officials were cited in the report as saying.
The officials said that though, the rule book has provisions for the performance review of government officials who have completed 30 years in service or are over 55 years of age, but now it’s being followed more religiously.
PM Modi, while chairing a review meeting of infrastructure secretaries, had directed the Indian Railways to identify under-performing officials and get rid of them, sources were cited in the report as saying.
After the meeting, the Railways recently transferred several senior officials from its headquarters to different zones to ensure that there are more men on the ground than at the headquarters with little work.
