Indian Railways To Soon Have World’s Largest CCTV Network With Cameras Installed In Over 6,000 Stations

In a project of unmatched scale, the state owned RailTel Corporation is all set to construct the world’s biggest CCTV network with more than 6,000 railway stations connected and secured by the CCTV cameras, reports Livemint.
Making the development public, the chairman and managing director of Railtel, Puneet Chawla apprised the media that the company plans to invite tender for the same as soon as next month itself.
According to a parliamentary response, railway ministry plans to provide CCTV-based surveillance system at stations and in passenger carrying trains to augment their safety and security.
RailTel is a state-owned company that comes under the administrative control of the railway ministry and provides services pertaining to telecom to government departments, including the railways.
