Indians First: After Assam, Centre To Focus On Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants In Karnataka

On Tuesday, September 18, Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh hinted that the government at the centre is interested in initiating necessary action against illegal immigrants in Karnataka. The minister was attending a southern zonal council meeting in Bengaluru. He said that every country deserves a right to know the quantification of foreigners and natives who reside in their country.
Deccan Chronicle reported that the government will soon look into the matter of keeping count on illegal immigrants living in Karnataka. This will come into immediate effect after the Assam census of foreign nationals is completed.
On the other hand, Karnataka minister D K Shivakumar has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate. Commenting on the issue, Singh said that the Income Tax and ED are autonomous bodies and will take a call on who should be interrogated or arrested. He said, “These organisations are not misused, the opposition is making baseless allegations.”
The council reviewed recommendations made in the past concerning the security of fishermen, an introduction of trains to promote peninsular tourism, equal allocation of funds in proportion to the population of SC/STs, harnessing renewable energy. Out of the 27 issues that were tabled, 22 were solved.
