A new report released today (12 December) by consulting firm techARC has revealed that the average smartphone user in India has 51 apps installed on his phone, even though most Indian users just use about 24 of those apps on an average, reports The Tribune.

The number of apps installed on an average smartphone in India ranges from just five to 207.

The report warned against some people’s tendency to install a very high number of apps, stating that such behaviour can drain smartphones in many ways, and also impact the overall performance of the phone. Furthermore, it also makes the smartphones vulnerable to security loopholes through some of the apps.

The most used category of apps is social media, with 76 per cent of users using such apps on a daily basis. The second best performing category is mobile gaming, with 70 per cent of users playing games on their smartphones daily.

Other popular categories include financial apps, with daily usage of such apps by up to half of consumers, over-the-top (OTT) apps that stream content being used by about 40 per cent users on a daily basis.
