India's Covid-19 Tally Crosses 10 Lakh Mark With Record 34,956 New Cases; Fatalities Surge Past 25,000

With a record spike of 34,956 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 1,003,832, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Friday (17 July).

According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 3,42,473 are active cases while at least 6,35,757 people have been cured of the disease.

The number of Covid-19 deaths in the country has increased from previous day's 24,915 to 25,602, an increase of 687 in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 2,84,281 cases, including 11,194 fatalities, and 1,58,140 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 1,56,369 cases.

The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 1.18 lakh-mark with as many as 1,18,645 cases recorded so far, the third-highest tally in the country. Karnataka has reported the fourth highest tally of 51,422 cases.


States with more than 10,000 cases are Gujarat (45,481), Uttar Pradesh (43,441), Telangana (41,018), Andhra Pradesh (38,044), West Bengal (36,117), Rajasthan (27,174), Haryana (24,002), Bihar (21,764), Madhya Pradesh (20,378), Assam (19,754), Odisha (15,392), Jammu and Kashmir (12,156) and Kerala (10,275).

Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Punjab (9,094), Chhattisgarh (4,732), Jharkhand (4,624), Uttarakhand (3,982), Goa (3,108) and Tripura (2,283) .

According to the Health Ministry, 531 cases are being re-assigned to states.
