India's Covid-19 Tally Crosses 7 Lakh Mark With 22,252 New Cases; Fatalities Surge Past 20,000

With a spike of 22,252 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 7,19,665, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Tuesday (7 July).

According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 2,59,557 are active cases while at least 4,39,948 people have been cured of the disease.

The number of Covid-19 deaths in the country has increased from Monday's 19,693 to 20,160, an increase of 467 in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 2,11,987 cases, including 9,026 fatalities, and 1,15,262 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 1,14,978 cases.

The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 100,000-mark with as many as 1,00,823 cases recorded so far, the third-highest tally in the country. Gujarat has reported the fourth highest tally of 36,772 cases so far.

States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (3,115), Gujarat (1,960), Tamil Nadu (1,571), Uttar Pradesh (809), West Bengal (779), and Madhya Pradesh (617).

States with more than 10,000 cases are Uttar Pradesh (28,636), Telangana (25,733), Karnataka (25,317), West Bengal (22,987), Rajasthan (20,688), Andhra Pradesh (20,019), Haryana (17,504), Madhya Pradesh (15,284), Bihar (12,125) and Assam (12,160).

Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Odisha (9,526), Jammu and Kashmir (8,675), Punjab (6,491), Kerala (5,622), Chhattisgarh (3,305), Uttarakhand (3,161) and Jharkhand (2,847).

According to the Health Ministry, 5,034 cases are being re-assigned to states.
