With the highest single-day spike of 17,296 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 490,401, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Friday (26 June).
According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 189,463 are active cases while at least 285,637 people have been cured of the disease.
The number of Covid-19 death toll in the country has increased from Wednesday's 14,894 to 15,301, an increase of 407 in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 147,741 cases, including 6,931 fatalities, and 77,453 recoveries. The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 73,000-mark with as many as 73,780 cases recorded so far, second-highest tally in the country. Tamil Nadu followed with 70,977 cases. Gujarat has reported 29,520 cases so far.
States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (2,429), Gujarat (1,753), Tamil Nadu (911), Uttar Pradesh (611), West Bengal (606), and Madhya Pradesh (542).
States with more than 10,000 cases are Uttar Pradesh (20,193), Rajasthan (16,296), West Bengal (15,648), Madhya Pradesh (12,596), Haryana (12,463), Telangana (11,364), Andhra Pradesh (10,884) and Karnataka (10,560).
Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Bihar (8,473), Jammu and Kashmir (6,549), Assam (6,321), Odisha (5,962), Punjab (4,769), Kerala (3,726), Uttarakhand (2,691), Chhattisgarh (2,452) and Jharkhand (2,262).
According to the Health Ministry, 8,123 cases are being re-assigned to states.
