India's Covid-19 Tally Rises To 5.85 Lakh With 18,653 New Cases; Death Toll Increases To 17,400

With a spike of 18,653 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 585,493, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Wednesday (1 July).

According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 220,114 are active cases while at least 347,949 people have been cured of the disease.

The number of Covid-19 death toll in the country has increased from Tuesday's 16,893 to 17,400, an increase of 507 in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 174,761 cases, including 7,855 fatalities, and 90,911 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 90,167 cases.

The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 87,000-mark with as many as 87,360 cases recorded so far, third-highest tally in the country. Gujarat has reported 32,557 cases so far.

States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (2,742), Gujarat (1,846), Tamil Nadu (1,201), Uttar Pradesh (697), West Bengal (668), and Madhya Pradesh (572).

States with more than 10,000 cases are Uttar Pradesh (23,492), West Bengal (18,559), Rajasthan (18,014), Telangana (16,339), Karnataka (15,242), Haryana (14,548), Andhra Pradesh (14,595), Madhya Pradesh (13,593) and Bihar (10,043).

Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Assam (8,227), Jammu and Kashmir (7,497), Odisha (7,065), Punjab (5,568), Kerala (4,442), Uttarakhand (2,881), Chhattisgarh (2,860) and Jharkhand (2,490).

According to the Health Ministry, 6,915 cases are being re-assigned to states.
