India's Covid-19 Tally Rises To 7.67 Lakh With Record 24,879 New Cases, Fatalities Surge Past 21,000

With a spike of record 24,879 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 7,67,296, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Thursday (9 July).

According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 2,69,789 are active cases while at least 4,76,378 people have been cured of the disease.

The number of Covid-19 deaths in the country has increased from Wednesday's 20,642 to 21,129, an increase of 487 in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 2,23,724 cases, including 9,448 fatalities, and 1,23,192 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 1,22,350 cases.

The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 104,000-mark with as many as 1,04,864 cases recorded so far, the third-highest tally in the country. Gujarat has reported the fourth highest tally of 38,333 cases so far.

States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (3,213), Gujarat (1,993), Tamil Nadu (1,700), Uttar Pradesh (845), West Bengal (827), and Madhya Pradesh (629).

States with more than 10,000 cases are Uttar Pradesh (31,156), Telangana (29,536), Karnataka (28,877), West Bengal (24,823), Andhra Pradesh (22,259), Rajasthan (22,063), Haryana (18,690), Madhya Pradesh (16,036), Assam (13,336), Bihar (13,189), and Odisha (10,624).

Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Jammu and Kashmir (9,261), Punjab (6,907), Kerala (6,195), Chhattisgarh (3,525), Uttarakhand (3,258) and Jharkhand (3,096).

According to the Health Ministry, 4,385 cases are being re-assigned to states.
