India's Covid-19 Tally Rises To Over 9.68 Lakh With Highest Single-Day Spike Of 32,695 New Cases; Fatalities Near 25,000

With the highest single-day spike of 32,695 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 9,68,876, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Thursday (16 July).

According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 3,31,146 are active cases while at least 6,12,815 people have been cured of the disease.

The number of Covid-19 deaths in the country has increased from previous day's 24,309 to 24,915, an increase of 606 in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 2,75,640 cases, including 10,928 fatalities, and 1,52,613 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 1,51,820 cases.

The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 1.16 lakh-mark with as many as 1,16,993 cases recorded so far, the third-highest tally in the country. Karnataka has reported the fourth highest tally of 47,253 cases.


States with more than 10,000 cases are Gujarat (44,552), Uttar Pradesh (41,383), Telangana (39,342), Andhra Pradesh (35,451), West Bengal (34,427), Rajasthan (26,437), Haryana (23,306), Bihar (20,612), Madhya Pradesh (19,643), Assam (18,666), Odisha (14,898) and Jammu and Kashmir (11,666).

Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Kerala (9,553), Punjab (8,799), Chhattisgarh (4,539), Jharkhand (4,320), Uttarakhand (3,785), Goa (2,951) and Tripura (2,268) .

According to the Health Ministry, 1,285 cases are being re-assigned to states.
