With the highest single-day spike of 45,720 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 1,192,915, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Thursday (23 July).
According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 4,26,167 are active cases while at least 7,82,607 people have been cured of the disease.
The number of Covid-19 deaths in the country has increased from previous day's 28,732 to 29,861, an increase of 1,129 in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 3,37,607 cases, including 12,556 fatalities, and 1,87,769 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 1,86,492 cases.
The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 1.26 lakh-mark with as many as 1,26,323 cases recorded so far, the third-highest tally in the country. Karnataka has reported the fourth highest tally of 75,833 cases.
States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (3,719), Tamil Nadu (3,144), Gujarat (2,224), Karnataka (1,519), Uttar Pradesh (1,263), West Bengal (1,221), and Madhya Pradesh (770).
States with more than 10,000 cases are Andhra Pradesh (64,713), Uttar Pradesh (55,588), Gujarat (51,399), West Bengal (49,321), Telangana (49,259), Rajasthan (32,334), Bihar (30,369), Haryana (28,186), Assam (26,772), Madhya Pradesh (24,842), Odisha (19,835), Jammu and Kashmir (15,711), Kerala (15,032) and Punjab (11,301).
Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Jharkhand (6,485), Chhattisgarh (5,968), Uttarakhand (5,300), Goa (4,176), Tripura (3,449), Pudducherry (2,300) and Manipur (2,060).
