IPL Spot-Fixing Case: Supreme Court Sets Aside Life Ban On Sreesanth, Asks BCCI To Reconsider Its Quantum

The Supreme Court has set aside the life ban on former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth imposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) disciplinary committee for his alleged involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, reports Business Line.
A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and K M Joseph reportedly asked the disciplinary committee of the BCCI to reconsider the quantum of punishment to be given to Sreesanth within three months.
Also, Sreesanth will get the opportunity of being heard by the committee on the quantum of the punishment.
However, it said that this verdict should not affect the criminal proceedings pending against Sreesanth in the Delhi High Court.
A trial court had discharged Sreesanth in the IPL spot-fixing case which is being challenged by Delhi Police at the High Court.
The Kerala High Court single judge-bench had earlier lifted the life ban imposed on Sreesanth by the BCCI and had set aside all proceedings against him initiated by the board.
The division bench of the high court later restored the ban on a petition filed by the BCCI against the single-judge bench’s order.
The BCCI had on 28 February reportedly told the apex court that the life ban imposed on Sreesanth was “fully sustainable in law” as he had “tried to influence” a match.
