Workplace review site Glassdoor has announced the winners of its eleventh annual Employees’ Choice Awards, honouring the Best Places to Work in 2019 across North America and parts of Europe.

Unlike other workplace awards, the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards are completely based on the input of employees who voluntarily provide anonymous feedback, by completing a company review about their job, work environment and employer over the past year.

The top ten Best Places to Work in 2019 are:

  1. Bain & Company (4.6 rating)
  2. Zoom Video Communications (4.5)
  3. In-N-Out Burger (4.5)
  4. Procore Technologies (4.5)
  5. Boston Consulting Group (4.5)
  6. LinkedIn (4.5)
  7. Facebook (4.5)
  8. Google (4.4)
  9. Lululemon (4.4)
  10. Southwest Airlines (4.4)

Boston headquartered global strategy consulting firm Bain & Company has been named the best place to work. Employees polled by Glassdoor cited the Bain’s supportive and ‘mission driven’ culture as reasons why they enjoy being ‘Bainies’ most.

According to reviews from the company’s profile in Glassdoor site, Bain’s best workplace features include an inclusive corporate culture, a diversity of projects, and supportive teams.

San Jose headquarters Zoom Video Communications, a company that provides remote conferencing services using cloud computing, was a new entrant at number 2, American fast food chain In-N-Out Burger at number 3, Construction project management software company Procore at number 4 and management advisory firm Boston Consulting Group at number 5.

LinkedIn finished number 6, Lululemon was placed at number 9 and Southwest Airlines made it as number 10.

Technology behemoths missed out making it in to the top five list for the first time since 2010. Facebook finished at number 7 compared to last year’s number 1 while Google finished number 8 compared to its ranking of number 1 on the 2015 list.

2018 has been a turbulent year for Google as it was hit by internal employee dissent over its search engine product for China and a protest walkout by more than 20,000 employees across the world for its perceived poor handling of sexual harassment cases. Facebook has come under severe criticism for its poor handling of users' personal data including the infamous Cambridge Analytica scandal.

Glassdoor determines the companies that are the Best Places to Work by analysing employee posted company reviews across eight variables:

Overall company rating, career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture and values, senior management, work-life balance, the likelihood of respondents to recommend the organisation to a friend and a six month business outlook.

During the year-long eligibility period, Glassdoor considers any employers for the large list if they have received at least 75 ratings. Employers considered for the small & medium list must have received at least 30 ratings.
