The Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu will be on a day-long visit to India on 9 September to meet his counterpart Narendra Modi, reports The Hindu.

“The (Israeli) Prime Minister will be in India only for a few hours on September 9, during which he will be meeting Modi. No other significant meeting is yet on the cards but something may be worked out during the coming days, possibly a business meeting,” sources were quoted in the report as saying.

According to the report, India had suggested 25 August for the visit of Netanyahu but the Israeli side pushed for an early September visit which has been finally confirmed on 9 September, exactly sixteen years after the then Israeli PM Ariel Sharon became the first premier of the Jewish nation to visit India.

Earlier, Netanyahu and PM Modi were scheduled to meet on 11 February this year before the elections in Israel. However, PM Netanyahu called off his New Delhi trip due to other engagements.
