The Vikram Lander might not be receiving signals due to hurdles on the lunar surface, Chandrayaan 1 Director Mylswamy Annadurai told NDTV on Sunday (8 September).
After receiving the location and the thermal image of the lander captured by the lunar orbiter, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists are now trying to establish contact with it.
"As we have located the lander on the lunar surface, we now have to establish contact with it. The place, where the lander alighted is expected to be not conducive enough for the lander to soft-land. There may be some obstacles, which could have been stopping us from establishing the connection," Mr Annadurai said.
He also informed, the orbiter which is already orbiting the Moon provided a communication channel which can be useful in regaining connection with the lander.
Earlier the ISRO Chief K Sivan had also confirmed, the location of the Vikram Lander had been found on lunar surface and orbiter had clicked a thermal image of it. “But there is no communication yet. We are trying to have contact. It will be communicated soon,” he added.
