‘It Is A Tower And Not A Statue’: Karnataka Minister DK Shivakumar ‘Clarifies’ About KRS Dam Monument

On Thursday (15 November) Water Resources Minister in the Karnataka Cabinet D K Shivakumar said that the proposed project at the Krishnaraja Sagar dam is going to be a tower and not a statue, Deccan Herald has reported.
“There is no statue. The architects have proposed a tower that will have glass chambers at a height where people can get a view of the region.It was a budget announcement that a Disneyland will be created at KRS dam. We’re doing this keeping tourism in mind. We will invite the private sector to invest through a public-private partnership. This will create jobs and bring revenue for the government,” DK Shivakumar told reporters.
As a part of the ‘Disneyland-like’ attraction at KRS, the state government proposed to build a statue of Mother Cauvery that is 350 ft tall. The government in its last budget even earmarked a sum of Rs 5 crore to attract investors to develop the project further.
The JD(S)-Congress coalition had severely criticised the central government’s decision to build the Statue of Unity in Gujarat.
