Former chief executive officer (CEO) of Pepsico Indra Nooyi is being considered for the position of World Bank president by the White House, Mint has reported.

Nooyi led Pepsico for 12 years before stepping down in August 2018. She is considered an ally of the Trump administration by the United States President’s eldest daughter Ivanka Trump, who reportedly is playing a role in the selection of a nominee for the position of World Bank’s president.

It is not yet clear whether Indra Nooyi, if chosen by the administration, would accept the nomination. However, Ivanka Trump, who reportedly views Nooyi as a “mentor” and an “inspiration”, has floated her name as a potential candidate.

As per the report, earlier this month, in an unexpected departure coming three years before the expiry of his term, current president of World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, announced that he would step down from his post in February to join a private investment firm. He was first appointed by former US President Barack Obama in 2012 on the recommendation of the then secretary-of-state Hillary Clinton, and was reappointed in 2016 to serve another five-year term.
