The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Sunday (19 May) successfully tested the 1,000-pound CBU-105 Smart Anti-Tank guided bomb through upgraded Jaguar fighter aircraft at Pokhran Test Firing Range in Jaisalmer, reports Times of India.

Manufactured by United States (US) based Textron Defence System, the lethal bomb is equipped with GPS to hit with precision and can be used during the day and the night even in adverse weather conditions.

During the test, officials from both the manufacturer Textron Defence System and the IAF were present at the Pokhran range to observe the accuracy of the guided bomb.

The first order of 512 such CBU-105 bombs had been placed by the Government of India in 2010. Also, for making the Jaguar aircraft capable to accommodate the precision bombs, the aircraft were upgraded with Drain III Navigation and Combat System. The resultant upgraded jaguar could carry 4-6 CBU-105 bombs at a single run.

With these bombs and the Drain III Navigation, the Jaguar can now be termed as Deep Penetration Strike Aircraft which can destroy surface targets like terrorist camps, airbases and warships with its on-board weaponries including the new generation laser guided bombs and CBU-105 sensor fused bombs.
