Jaipur Rape Case: Sikandar, A Habitual Offender Nabbed By Police; Was Convicted In 2004 For Assaulting Minor Boy

Sikandar alias Jivanu, a habitual rapist has been finally arrested five days after raping a seven-year-old girl in the Shastri Nagar locality of Jaipur, reports The Hindu. The crime had inspired widespread protests.
Under intense pressure as tensions prevailed in the locality, the police nabbed Sikandar, 35, in Kota on Saturday. He had gone there to meet an acquaintance after remaining untraceable for five days.
The accused took the minor victim on a motorcycle from her house on the night of 1 July to a deserted place. He later dumped her near her house. The condition of the victim, who was admitted to Sir Padampat Mother & Child Hospital here, has since improved.
Sikandar was convicted of unnatural sex and murder of an 11-year-old boy in 2004 and awarded life imprisonment. After his release from jail in 2015, he allegedly committed several crimes, including molestation of two minor girls in Bhatta Basti area Jaipur in 2017, according to the police records.
Jaipur Police Commissioner Anand Srivastava said that Sikandar was involved in as many as 10 crimes before and after his 2004 conviction and that his interrogation would reveal if he was responsible for a similar incident of rape of a four-year-girl in the same locality on 22 June.
Sikandar is also facing charges of theft of motorcycles, heist at shops, attacking a police officer and escaping from the police custody.
