Jallikattu Looks All Set To Be Held Despite The Supreme Court Ban

The people of Tamil Nadu are in no mood to accept the Supreme Court verdict on Jallikattu. After organising a Jallikattu event in coastal Cuddalore on 12 January, people from Madurai district are set to flout the Supreme Court ban. As per a Times of India report, people from three towns of Madurai district, namely Avaniapuram, Alanganallur and Palamedu, are making arrangements to conduct the game. Even the residents of Tiruchirappalli are reportedly joining in to defy the ban.
Over 10,000 people converged at a ground in Coimbatore in support of Jallikattu while protests were staged in Sivaganga, Dindigul, Pudukottai and Salem districts. It was declared by the organisers of manjuvirattu (a form of Jallikattu) in Siravayal, Sivaganga district, that they would hold the sport since it is a part of the temple custom. Students and local villagers blocked traffic at many places in Madurai, Dindigul and Sivaganga district too.
