The Jharkhand unit of the Janta Dal (United) (JD(U)) has announced demonstrations against the incumbent Raghubar Das government of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in the state. This decision was taken after a recent meeting of the JD(U)‘s working committee, reports Dainik Jagran. It was decided that while the party would praise the state administration where due, it would hold demonstrations against the lapses of the government. The protests are planned in all the district headquarters of the state on June 25.

The reason for this is not far to seek. While the JD(U) is the party in power in neighbouring Bihar along with the BJP, in Jharkhand the former is almost a non-entity and is hence ignored by the ruling BJP. When the BJP-JD(U) alliance was formed in Bihar in mid 2017, the Jharkhand unit of the latter thought they would be partaking in power in Ranchi too. However, no offer to the effect came from the BJP.

In fact, recently, the Jharkhand in-charge of JD(U), Ramsevak Singh, conceded that his party is not in alliance with the BJP in the state and would contest all the 81 Assembly seats in next year’s Vidhan Sabha elections.
