Jharkhand: 50 Food Processing Units To Come Up In The State For Rs 271 Crore

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das along with Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh laid the foundation stone for 50 food processing units in the state on Thursday (29 November). The units will be set up at a cost of Rs 271 crore and are expected to provide 6,000 jobs in the state, The New Indian Express has reported.
Singh and Das were in Ranchi to open the two-day Global Agriculture and Food summit. Organic brand ‘Jaivik Jharkhand’ was also launched on this occasion to promote organic farming in the state.
Das, addressing a gathering of more than 10,000 delegates from eight countries and farmers from the state, said that the food processing units will purchase agricultural produce directly from farmers and provide them better incomes.
He also announced that 28 lakh farmers in the state will be given free mobile phones by 2021 so that they can get connected with the global marketplace and get the right value for their produce.
The Chief Minister also promised separate power feeders for farmers by May 2019 to ensure that they get at least six hours of uninterrupted power supply, which would be raised to round-the-clock by August 2019.
Singh, speaking on the occasion, said the Narendra Modi government had provided more impetus to agriculture sector than previous regimes.
