Soon after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the closing of all illegal slaughter houses in Uttar Pradesh, government in another Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state, Jharkhand, has decided to get tough on this illegal trade.

According to Times of India, slaughter houses in Jharkhand have been given 72 hours to shut down if they do not have the required permissions or licences.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, which issues licences to abattoirs, has not issued any to units running in Jharkhand. Therefore, it can be concluded that all abattoirs in the state are illegal.

Orders have been issued by State Principal Secretary S K G Rahate to all deputy commissioners and superintendents of police along with authorities of municipal corporations to make sure that the crackdown on illegal slaughter houses is initiated immediately.
