Members of a Maoist group in Jharkhand.
Seven jawans of Jharkhand Police’s specially trained ‘Jaguar Force’ were martyred and four others were injured, all them of them critically, in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists in Burapahar range on the border between the states’s western Latehar and Garhwa districts on Tuesday (26 June) evening. A joint team of CRPF, Jaguar Force and police had gone to the hunt down Maoists after receiving information on the presence of the rebels in Chinjo area of Garhwa.
This was the second encounter between the Maoists and security forces over the past three days. On Sunday (24 June), the two sides were engaged in a gun-battle at Kujrum in Latehar district. Latehar and Garhwa are Maoist hotbeds who find it easy to escape to Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh after carrying out operations there.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
