According to a Telecom Regularity Authority of India (TRAI) data, Reliance Infocomm’s Jio leads in the country with widest 4G network. The data also shows that Airtel has expanded its network over three-folds since September 2017, reports The Economic Times.
The data, published in a consultation paper for reviewing deadline to end mobile call termination charges, showed that in June this year, Jio had 7.46 lakh base transceiver stations (BTS) almost doubling the figure from 3.81 lakh BTS in September 2017.
Although Bharti Airtel has increased its network to 3.26 lakh BTS in two years, it still covers less than half of Jio’s network. It had 97,130 BTS in September 2017.
While Vodafone Idea has the most number of spectrums that can be used for 4G services, it could only grow its 4G network by 62 per cent.
As per the data, 4G network is on a rise in the country holding at least 60 per cent of the total network with 12.55 lakh BTS from 5.91 lakh BTS in two years.
As a result, the number of 2G and 3G network base stations has decreased since 2017. While 2G network has come down from 6.61 lakh BTS to 4.79 lakh BTS, 3G now has 3.43 lakh BTS in comparison to 3.6 lakh in September 2017.
