J&K: Foreign Envoys’ Delegation Visiting The Union Territory Briefed By Indian Army And J&K Police

The delegation of 20 Ambassadors of foreign countries started its two-day visit to J&K on Wednesday (17 February). This marks the fourth such visit by diplomats of foreign countries to J&K after 5 August 2019 when article 370 was abrogated and the state was divided into two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.

The group of diplomats were briefed by Indian Army and J&K Police in Srinagar about the overall security situation in the region.

SSP Anantnag Sandeep Chaudhary briefed the delegation on community engagements, counter-radicalisation, Police initiatives in sports, employment opportunities, counselling, community bond schemes for potential terrorist recruits.

While, SP East Srinagar, Sheema Nabi Qasba who hails from Kashmir, briefed on how Police dealt with challenges posed by Covid-19 pandemic, maintaining a balance between addressing people’s problems and enforcing COVID restrictions.

As per ANI, Indian Army also highlighted to the delegates their role in making terrorists surrender, infiltration from LOC and support of Pakistan Army in infiltration. Harbouring terrorists, training camps, seized weapons supplied by Pakistan were also some issues brief by the army.

The diplomatic delegation is being led by the European Union Ambassador, Ugo Astuto and will include members from the European Union, African and Middle Eastern countries.

The delegation also includes members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The diplomatic visit to J&K is taking place on the invitation of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
