One Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist was killed on Tuesday (7 January) in an encounter with security forces in Awantipora of South Kashmir after a 40-day gap since the last encounter, the police said.

The slain terrorist Zahid Hassan Gadhanji of Anantnag had joined the terror ranks only a few days ago and refused to surrender as the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and CRPF was carrying out a joint operation in the Charsoo area.

Earlier on 4 January, the security forces had nabbed a terrorist, Nisar Ahmed Dar, belonging to Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Dar is an associate of Salim Parray, who is top terrorist of Lashkar-e-Taiba in North Kashmir, and earlier escaped from an encounter in which a Pakistani terrorist of Lashkar outfit was killed at Kulan Ganderbal on 12 November 2019," said a senior police officer.
