The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Administrative Council, headed by Lieutenant-Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha, has authorized the land transfer in five districts of the Union Territory (UT) to construct 2774 flats for Kashmiri Pandit employees who were displaced from the valley.

This initiative will be taken forward as a part of the Prime Minister’s Development Package that came out in the year 2015.

Apparently, a total Rs 356 crore will be shelled out towards constructing these concerned flats at seven different locations.

The entire construction process is slated to take around 18 months’ time as per the official statement of the administration of the region. It will also roll out employment opportunities to about 413 skilled and unskilled workers.

“(The construction)...will provide employment to approximately 413 skilled and unskilled workers,” the official statement confirmed in a report by the Hindustan Times.

It added, “On completion, the residential buildings will provide government accommodation with basic services to the Kashmiri migrant employees engaged under the Prime Minister’s Relief Package.”

Back in 2015, the central government had given the green light for the construction of around 6000 transit accommodation units in the valley of Kashmir.

Rs 920 crore was earmarked for this project that aimed to benefit the aforementioned displaced Pandit population of the region.
