Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists have been killed in an encounter that began in Ganipora Kralgund in north Kashmir’s Handwara on Wednesday (19 August) evening, officials said.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police identified one of the killed terrorists as LeT Commander Naseer-u-din Lone. As per police records he was involved in the killing of three CRPF jawans at Sopore on 18 April and three CRPF jawans at Handwara on 4 May.

"LeT commander Naseer-u-din Lone, who was involved in the killing of 3 CRPF jawans at Sopore on 18/4/20 and 3 CRPF jawans at Handwara on 4/5/20, got killed," IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said.

Security forces, including Army personnel, had launched a joint operation after a specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area.

As security forces surrounded the area where the terrorists were hiding, they came under heavy fire that triggered the encounter.

In another encounter in Shopian district, a terrorist was killed in Molu Chitragam area of the district. The terrorist has been identified as Talib Hussain Mir, the son of Nisar Ahmed Mir, a resident of Mohlpora in Kulgam. He belonged to the Hizbul Mujahideen at Molu Chattergam, reports Zee News.
