Former Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) chief minister Mehboob Mufti has been moved to her residence in Srinagar, as per an official order issued on Tuesday (7 April). However, she will continue to be under detention, the order added.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) head has been moved from a subsidiary prison on MA Road in the capital city to her Fairview residence, Hindustan Times reported.
Charged under the contentious Public Safety Act (PSA), Mufti had been under detention ever since the special status of the erstwhile state under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution was scrapped on 5 August 2019.
Several other senior J&K leaders from the region including two other former CMs National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah had been put into detention following the parliament’s decision last year.
The two NC leaders among many others had been eventually released, Mufti still remains under detention.
Responding to the news of her shifting from jail to house detention, Junior Abdullah tweeted, “@MehboobaMufti must be set free. Shifting her home while continuing to keep her detained is a cop out (sic).”
