Accusing the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration of withholding merit-cum-means (MCM) scholarship funds from BA-MA students for the last eight months, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) has demanded an immediate release of detailed and transparent accounts of fund allocation and expenditure, reports The Indian Express.

The JNU administration has stalled the release of over Rs 50 lakhs in scholarship funds, as per JNUSU’s claims. The student body asserted that if the administration did not have the funds to release to students, it meant that the money had been illegally diverted for other purposes.

JNUSU also wants to know whether there were directions from the HRD ministry or the UGC to not release the MCM funds or the fellowship money.

In its statement, the student body said, “JNUSU condemns this delay of MCM disbursal and demands JNU administration to release the amount and stop committing financial frauds that have reached its apex under the present JNU VC.”

Officials from the JNU administration denied having knowledge about the issue.
