Just Ten Days After Banning Chinese App TikTok Over 'Obscene' And 'Immoral' Content, Pakistan Lifts The Ban

Just ten days after it had banned the Chinese short video platform TikTok citing "immoral contents", Pakistan has now revoked the ban, reports Economic Times.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had imposed a ban on the Chinese technology behemoth ByteDance owned platform TikTok on 9 October after getting numerous complaints about the presence of immoral content on it. It had then said that TikTok had failed to block such content despite being told to do so many times.
However, revoking the ban on Monday (19 October), PTA said that it has received an assurance from TikTok that the platform will control the content and block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading "obscenity and immorality". The authority said that TikTok will moderate the accounts in accordance with Pakistan's local laws.
This comes as a breather for TikTok which has been facing troubles across the world for the security threats posed by its links to the Chinese government. The United States (US) and the Indian government have already banned it on national security grounds.
