Justice Kurian’s Allegations: Minister Rebuts Pressure Claims; Says Judiciary Is Independent, Takes Its Own Decisions

The Indian government has said that the Judiciary is independent and capable of handling its own affairs, in response to retired Justice Joseph’s remarks that ex-Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, was working under "external" influence.
“The then CJI was working under some influence of some external source. He was remote-controlled by an external source,” said Justice Joseph, reported The New Indian Express.
Minister of State for Law, P P Chaudhary, rubbished the speculations by saying that the Judiciary is an independent organ of the Indian Constitution and is very well capable of taking its own decisions. He added that the government works towards the independence of the judiciary and does not intervene in the functioning of courts.
Chaudhary also rubbished rumours of the government blaming the judiciary for the delay in judicial appointments, and said that it was not right to say that the government had accused the judiciary of the same.
