In an expected move, Congress leader and former Karnataka minister Roshan Baing was suspended by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Tuesday, reports The News Minute.

Baig was vocal in his dissent towards other leaders of the party over the debacle in the Lok Sabha elections and has been linked to a Ponzi scheme in his constituency.

"All India Congress Committee has approved the proposal sent by KPCC to take action against Roshan Baig on account of his anti-party activities. He has been suspended from the party with immediate effect on the basis of an inquiry conducted on the matter," said the official release by the party.

Baig had criticised AICC Karnataka in-charge K.C. Venugopal, KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on the outset of the Lok Sabha election results.

Calling AICC Karnataka in-charge K C Venugopal ‘a buffoon’, Baig said, “I feel sorry for my leader Rahul Gandhi. Because of buffoons like Venugopal and arrogant attitude of Siddaramaiah and flop show of KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao, the result is like this.”

In the meantime, Baig appealed the Muslims to ‘compromise with the situation’, and said, “We should not be sacrificed. We should not remain like cattle. We should not become vote bank of one side.”

Corroborating Baig’s take, his son tweeted, “Congress has created a fear psychosis among the minorities. They’ve created a narrative that minorities should feel guilty if they decide to vote for BJP. But in reality, Congress leadership just uses the minority vote bank as a safety cushion.”

Baig also censured Siddaramaiah for dividing the Hindu society by attempting to give separate religion status to the Lingayat community and abusing the Vokkaligas persistently while he was chief minister.

Baig’s name has been strongly heard in the recent IMA Jewellery led Ponzi scheme in his Shivajinagar assembly constituency. Senior Congress leaders have said that Roshan had approached them along with Mansoor Khan, the founder and owner of IMA Jewels.

Mansoor, through his widely circulated audio clip, alleged that Baig cheated him of Rs 400 crore, as the latter did not return the money paid by the former.

As the number of complaints on the fraud crossed 38,000, a Special Investigation Team(SIT) has been formed to probe the case.
