D K Shivakumar, Minister of Energy, Government of Karnataka
The Income Tax (IT) department has conducted raids across properties belonging to D K Shivakumar, the incumbent Energy Minister in the Siddaramaiah cabinet in Karnataka, and unearthed cash exceeding Rs 10 crore.
The minister, who is also the legislator representing Kanakapura in the legislative assembly, is among the richest politicians in the state, reportedly owning assets worth Rs 251 crore.
The IT department, which has conducted raids for two days, has reportedly seized Rs 8.33 crore in cash from his Delhi house, Rs 2.5 crore from Bengaluru and Rs 60 lakh from Mysuru. He was allegedly caught tearing documents when the raid team arrived at the Eagleton Golf Resort in Bengaluru.
Officials are also said to be investigating shell companies and their operators in connection with the money found.
Shivakumar is also the party’s campaign committee chairman for the upcoming legislative elections in early 2018, and was given charge of the 43 Gujarat legislators who were flown in to Bengaluru last week amid charges of horse-trading ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls.
