The Karnataka government is considering to ban the construction of new apartments in Bengaluru for the next five years, as the state capital reels from water scarcity, the News Minute reports.

The Deputy CM and Bengaluru Development Minister G Parameshwara said that the proposal comes in the wake of apartment residents in city suburbs rely on pure tanker water for both drinking and domestic purposes.

To solve the water problems, Deputy CM Parameshwara said that the government has directed concerned officials to prepare a detailed project report for the proposed Linganamakki Project, which would see the water from the Netravati river diverted to Bengaluru, Kolar and Chikkaballapur.
