Karnataka: Governor Vajubhai Vala Asks CM Kumaraswamy To Prove Majority In The State Assembly By 1.30PM Today

In a fresh trouble for the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in Karnataka, Governor of the state Vajubhai Vala has asked the Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to prove his majority in the state Assembly at or before 1.30pm today (19 July).

Earlier on Thursday (18 July), the voting on the trust vote could not take place as the Speaker K Ramesh Kumar adjourned the house till the next day despite the Governor requesting him to consider voting on the motion by the end of the day.

"The fact that 15 members have met me and tendered their resignations coupled with the fact that two members have withdrawn their support and other attendant circumstances, prima facie it indicates that you have lost majority/confidence of the House," the Governor wrote to the Chief Minister, as reported by NDTV.

The Governor noted that the House was adjourned on Thursday (18 July) without reaching any finality and said, "this cannot go on in a democratic set up governed by the Constitution of India."

“Though a message as contemplated under article 175 (2) is sent to the Speaker, I'm informed that the House is adjourned today. Under these circumstances, I request you to prove your majority on the floor of the House on or before 1:30 PM tomorrow (Friday)," Vala said in the letter to Kumaraswamy.
