Karnataka: Ola, Uber Continue Pool Services Despite Transport Department’s Order To Stop Ride Sharing

A day after the Transport Department directed app-based taxi aggregators Ola and Uber to stop ride share option, it seems they have decided to defy and continue despite violating the Karnataka On Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rule, 2016, The Hindu reports.
“In the city, only the BMTC has a stage carriage licence to operate buses. Taxis can operate on-demand services from point A to B, but they are not allowed to pick or drop passengers en route,” Transport Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri said
According to government rules, cabs are not supposed to involves picking up and dropping passengers similar to city buses. “If rideshare is provided from one point to another, we have no objections,” he said while adding that a committee will be formed to look into the issue.
However this order has not gone done well with the commuters who find this service low-cost, easily available and allow them to travel faster saving time in a city that suffers from serious traffic congestion.
