In a shocking incident, three persons associated with the Arkeshwara temple in Mandya taluk in Karnataka were brutally murdered on Thursday night (Sep 10).

Miscreants escaped with the offerings from the temple Hundi.

The deceased have been identified as Anand (42), Ganesh (55) and Prakash (60).

The Arkeshwara temple at Gottalu village, Mandya taluk, comes under Muzrai department, and the police are on the lookout for murderers. The temple in the Guthalu Layout of Mandya was built during the 12th century in the time of Cholas.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa Friday ordered an inquiry into the alleged murder of three people, who were found dead inside a temple at Mandya this morning. He announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the kin of the deceased.

The Indian Express quoted Mandya Superintendent of Police K Parashurama as saying “While Anand is the son of the temple priest, Ganesh and Prakash were working as security guards at the temple. Their bodies were found inside the temple premises with their heads crushed with boulders,”

“With the evidence collected from the crime scene, we can confirm the incident as murder. Prima facie, the motive behind the crime seems to be robbery as we found only a few coins left in the money collection boxes (hundis),” he added.
